Asphalt, Größe variabel

"Auf der Spur" ist Ausgangspunkt einer Materialanalyse und der Versuch, den technischen Werkstoff Asphalt durch händische Bearbeitung in die künstlerische Praxis zu übertragen. Erfahrungsgrundlagen haben mir der Besuch der Asphaltwerke in Kiel und die Erprobung verschiedener Mischverhältnisse aus Bitumen und diversen Gesteinskörnungen geschaffen. Im Projektraum der Bildhauereiklasse habe ich das nur heiß zu verarbeitende Material auf einer zuvor abgesteckten Teilfläche, von ca. 15 Quadratmetern, des Bodens verteilt und im Gegensatz zur Praxis im Straßenbau mit meinem eigenen Körpergewicht verdichtet. Nach Aushärtung, der so im Raum geschaffenen Asphaltdecke, habe ich diese wieder bewusst aufgebrochen. Die entstandenen Bruchstücke habe ich als Sammlung auf einem Stapel im Raum arrangiert. Die Form der Bruchstücke wird durch die Sprödigkeit und Schwere des Materials bestimmt. Aufgrund der Trägheit des Materials sind während der Ausstellung fortwährenden Asphalt-Teile abgebrochen.

Asphalt, size variable

"On the Trail" is the starting point of a material analysis and an attempt to transfer the technical material asphalt into artistic practice through manual processing. My basis of experience was created through visits to the asphalt plants in Kiel and the experimentation with various mix ratios of bitumen and various aggregates. In the project space of the sculpture class, I spread the hot-process-material on a pre-marked area of approximately 15 square meters of the floor and compacted it with my own body weight, in contrast to the practices in road construction. After the curing process, resulting in the asphalt surface created within the space, I deliberately broke it open again. I arranged the resulting fragments as a collection on a stack in the room. The shape of the fragments is determined by the brittleness and weight of the material. Due to the inertia of the material, parts of the asphalt continuously broke off during the exhibition.
