Kultivierung von Nutzpflanzen im urbanen Raum

Das System „urban_window_farming“ verbessert - angebracht an Fassaden - den Lebenskomfort der Bewohner*innen, sowie das allgemeine Stadtbild und die Luftqualität. Es können ungenutzte urbane Flächen für den Anbau von Lebensmitteln genutzt werden. Ein gläserner Windschutz umschließt die Pflanzröhren und beinhaltet den Wassertank samt Leitungssystem an der Fassade. Durch seine Form schmiegt sich das System an die Fassade und wird Teil der Architektur. Die Anbauweise „Aeroponic“ ermöglicht die Kultivierung von Gemüse ohne Erde im vertikalen Raum. Eine Nährlösung wird von einer solarbetriebenen Pumpe aus dem Wassertank durch den Rahmen nach oben befördert. In den Röhren tropft die Lösung anschließend über die Wurzeln der Pflanzen. Durch diese Technik können ca. 95 % Wasser im Vergleich zum herkömmlichen Gemüseanbau eingespart werden. Zur Ernte der Pflanzen werden die Röhren mit einem Schienensystem angehoben und abgekoppelt vom Tank zur Fensteröffnung gedreht.

Cultivation of crops in urban areas

Attached to facades the "urban_window_farming" system improves the living comfort of the residents, as well as the general cityscape and air quality. It enables the cultivation of food close to the living space. Untapped urban areas can now be used to grow food. A glass cover shields the plant tubes and contains the water tank and pipe system. Thanks to its shape, the system nestles against the facade and becomes part of the architecture. The utilized "aeroponic" cultivation method allows the cultivation of vegetables without soil in a vertical space. A nutrient solution is pumped from the water tank up through the frame by a solar-powered pump. Inside the tubes, the solution then drips over the roots of the plants. This technique saves about 95% of water compared to conventional cultivation methods. To harvest the plants, the tubes are lifted by a rail system and then rotated towards the window opening.
