Virtual Reality Erfahrung

Die im Rahmen des Projekts „Fairytale Forest“ entstandene VR-Arbeit „Wald: Eine ästhetische Naturerfahrung in der Stadt“ beschäftigt sich mit dem Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Stadtlandschaft und natürlichem Wald. Die Natur im Zeitalter des Menschen oder Anthropozän ist eine kolonisierte, die auch das menschliche Überleben in Gefahr bringt. Den Thesen Gernot Böhmes folgend, liegt der Lösungsansatz in einer Ästhetisierung, die Menschen mit Natur auf der Ebene der Erfahrung in Beziehung setzt. So soll mittels Virtual Reality der Versuch gestartet werden, in physischer Selbsterfahrung einen neuen Bezug zur Natur herzustellen. Das VR-Erlebnis verschränkt Fragen an Vergangenheit und Zukunft in einer immersiven Welt, die vertraut und alltäglich, aber zugleich fremd und ungewohnt ist. In der Rolle von Suchenden erkundet man die Umgebung, deren menschengemachte Normalität immer wieder von Spuren des Waldes durchbrochen wird. Kehrt der Wald tatsächlich zurück oder ist alles nur eine Illusion?

Virtual Reality Experience

The VR work "Wald: Eine ästhetische Naturerfahrung in der Stadt" created as part of the "Fairytale Forest" project, explores the tension between urban landscapes and natural forests. Nature in the Anthropocene, the age of humans, is a colonized entity that also poses a threat to human survival. Following Gernot Böhme's theses, the solution lies in an aestheticization that establishes a relationship between humans and nature on the level of experience. Through virtual reality, an attempt is made to reconnect with nature through physical self-experience. The virtual reality experience intertwines questions of the past and future in an immersive world that is familiar and mundane, yet simultaneously strange and unfamiliar. In the role of seekers, participants explore the environment, where the human-made normality is repeatedly disrupted by traces of the forest. But does the forest truly return, or is everything just an illusion?
